Mary E. Hedge, a recent resident of Pennsylvania Place in Ottumwa, Iowa passed away at Baylor Heart Hospital in Plano, Texas on Wednesday, March 28, 2012. She was born August 13, 1920 near Rose Hill, Iowa to Harry K. and Ava Blair Hedge. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Dorothy Tungate. She is survived by two brothers and their spouses, Rex B. and Bernice Hedge and H. Kay and Alleen Hedge both of rural Fremont, along with nieces and nephews. She attended Old Rose Hill School, Shiloh School; both located in rural Mahaska County, was a 1938 graduate of Fremont High School and attended Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa. In 1942 she moved to Chicago and was an employee of the Louis Melind Company having retired in 1991 as company president. Following her retirement she became a resident of Santa Fe, New Mexico living there for 21 years and moved back to Iowa in 2011. In Santa Fe she served as a member of the Beinvenidos, the women’s service division of the Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce, was active in the Old Santa Fe Trail Association, Santa Fe Republican Women and the Newcomer’s Organization. She was a business woman at heart and a world traveler during her adult life. A memorial service will be held at the Fremont Funeral Chapel at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2012, with visitation being held at 10:00 a.m. for family and friends. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. The interment of the cremains will be held at a later date in the Cedar Township Cemetery, according to her wishes.
