Mary Ann Dickerson, age 71, of Albia, IA, passed away Friday, October 22, 2021, at Oakwood Specialty Care in Albia. Mary Ann was born on April 15, 1950, at the Albia Hospital to Norman and Ledra (Smith) Tomlinson.
Mary grew up attending school and graduated from the Albia High School with the Class of 1968.
On February 21, 1975, she married Clyde Dickerson at the First Christian Church in Albia. Mary Ann and Clyde shared 40 years of marriage prior to Clyde’s passing on March 18, 2015.
Mary Ann was a nurse’s aide at the old Albia Hospital and later the new hospital, retiring in 2009 after 40 years. She loved her job, coworkers, and patients.
Mary Ann enjoyed being outdoors, flower gardening, and vegetable gardening. She enjoyed playing cards, especially Rummy and Solitaire, as well as doing puzzles and word searches. She was an excellent cook, known for her zucchini bread, and loved to cook holiday meals for her family. Together, Mary Ann and Clyde raised dogs, rabbits and birds over the years. She loved her dogs, Frenchie, Peaches, Candy, and Missy.
Mary Ann’s true joy in life was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was always their biggest supporter and fan.
Mary Ann is survived by her daughter, Linda (& Gary) Wilson; her son, Clyde “Ed” (& Michelle) Dickerson; 7 grandchildren: Heather Wilson, Matthew Reed, Tara (& Oscar) Aldaba, Tyler (& Samantha) Wilson, Robbie Wilson, Harrison Dickerson, and Tanner Wilson; 8 great grandchildren: Donovan, Coleton, Kingston, Javier, Isabella, Brynlee, Jackson, and Kinsley; a sister, Kay Williams; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde; her parents, Norman and Ledra; a sister in infancy; and a brother-in-law, Clayton.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Mary Ann’s family present from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. to greet family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 28, 2021, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia.
Burial will follow services at Oak View Cemetery in Albia.
A memorial has been established to the Monroe County Hospital.
