Marlys Allen, 65 of Deep River passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at the Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines. Marlys Jane Allen, the daughter of Donald and Colleen (Hunt) Allen, was born on November 6, 1952.

Marlys attended school at Cardinal of Eldon High School in Eldon, Iowa. Marlys raised three children. She was originally from Eldon before moving to Montezuma and Malcom where she lived for 30 years.

Marlys worked at Kwik Star, Comfort Inn Hotel, and Hy-Vee Bakery where she absolutely enjoyed interacting with her customers and coworkers.

She was an avid reader, an excellent cook, enjoyed figure 8 racing and above all spending time with and bragging about her grandchildren.

Her memory will be cherished by her children: Molly (& Darrin) Ehret of Deep River, Roy “Eddie” (& MaryAnn) Eakins of Chillicothe, MO and Ronnie (& Christy) Moore of Grinnell; 12 grandchildren: Dustin (& Amberly) Ehret, Dalton Ehret, Dillon Ehret, Allen Eakins, Jillian Eakins, Haley Eakins, Abby Kriegel, Kaylee Magstadt, Brady Moore, Madison Moore, McKinley Moore and Reagan Moore; her mother, Colleen Allen of Ottumwa; her brother, Mike Allen of Ottumwa; her sister, Myra (& Wes) Higdon of Ottumwa; along with several other nieces, nephews and friends.

Marlys was preceded in death by her father, Donald Allen; and a granddaughter, Mikyla Ehret.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Saturday, January 6, 2018, at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma.
Burial will be held in the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma.
Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm Friday, January 5, 2018, at the funeral home with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in the family’s name.
