Margaret Byrom, 98, of Oskaloosa and formerly of Rose Hill, passed away Monday, October 19, 2020 at the Oskaloosa Care Center. Margaret Gerdes Byrom, daughter of Charles Henry and Celia Ann Fischen Gerdes, was born March 7, 1922 in Hartford, Connecticut.

Following her education Margaret began working at the Underwood Typewriter factory. Margaret remembers that during the WWII years, the factory converted to making carbines.

In the late 1940s, Margaret moved to California. There she met Cecil Arlon Byrom, and they were married December 21, 1952 in Pico Rivera, California. They made their home in Baldwin Park and Margaret was employed by the paper division of the Continental Can Company; a job she held until her retirement in 1979.

In 1980, Margaret and Cecil moved to Wolf Creek, Oregon where they purchased a wooded property and they could enjoy the peace and beauty of the Oregon countryside. In 2005, Margaret moved to Rose Hill with her son, Arlon.

Margaret’s family includes her son, Curtis Byrom of Quarts Hill, California.

Besides her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil in August 1999; a son, Arlon; four sisters: Nettie Franzen, Madeline Kennedy, Mae Jonlonus and Calla Schinkle; and an infant brother.

As was her wish, Margaret’s body has been cremated.
A memorial service will be held at a future date.
Memorial contributions may be made to ASPCA, American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Funeral Chapel & Crematory has been entrusted with Margaret’s final arrangements.
