Mahaska County Sheriff’s Department

New Sharon, Iowa – A 40-year-old male was slightly injured on Monday evening while working on a power substation that is connected to the wind farm. The substation is located near 147th Street and Irvine Avenue near New Sharon.

The male came into contact with a live wire that was carrying an estimated 22,000 volts of electricity, resulting in some minor burn injuries.

According to Mahaska County Sheriff, the contractor has a policy that if an employee comes in contact with high voltage wires, it’s mandatory to be flown to the nearest trauma center as a precautionary measure.
