On Friday, August 18, 2017, at approximately 3:45 pm, members of the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 1200 block of 310th Street, near Bussey, Iowa. This call was in reference to a gunshot wound.

Upon Deputies’ arrival, it was discovered that an adult male passenger, in a vehicle traveling westbound, had inflicted a gunshot wound to himself. Deputies and medical personnel from the Pella and Bussey ambulance services provided medical care to the subject on the scene.

Deputies closed down both lanes of 310th Street, and a medical helicopter was landed on the highway. The subject was flown from the scene to an unknown trauma center/hospital in grave condition.

The Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Iowa Highway Patrol, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and first responders from Bussey. The investigation into this matter is continuing.
