Oskaloosa, Iowa – Mark your calendars for Thursday, August 2! Main Street’s Sweet Corn Serenade in downtown Oskaloosa will be the place for you. It will be a day packed with food, music by American Pie, kids’ crafts & games, a craft & product show, contests and MORE. There is fun for the whole family.

The craft show and food vendors begin at noon. Sweet Corn, Hy-Vee pork burgers, Jaarsma Bakery pies and ice cream will be served from 4 to 9 pm. The musical entertainment begins at 5:30 pm by American Pie–followed by the very popular Municipal Band at 8:00.

Pie bakers are needed for the pie-baking contest. There is no monetary entry fee for the pie baking contest—simply bring one pie to be judged and a second pie as your entry fee–no cream pies for the judging, please. Get those recipes out and start baking. Plan to bring your pies to the bandstand in the Square at 5:00 pm, with the contest beginning at 5:30. Osky Cash prizes will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places totaling $75.

Entertainment this year, sponsored by Bank Iowa of Oskaloosa, is American Pie featuring music of the 50’s, 60’s, old time rock n’ roll and even country music. This husband-and-wife-team present a freshness and energy reminiscent of a more innocent, fun loving era when hula hoops, hot rods, and sock hoppin’ Rock n’ Roll charmed a nation of Americans. Their professional entertainment careers span a generation and include dates in Las Vegas and Nashville, recording for MGM records, TV and Radio appearances, and sharing the bill with stars like the Statler Brothers, Guess Who, Anne Murray, Lorrie Morgan, and the late Tennessee Ernie Ford.

Children’s activities & games will be in full supply this year and at no cost!! Community 1st Credit Union will be providing Train Rides. The YMCA is going to conduct children’s crafts and Friday after Five is sponsoring an inflatable kids’ bounce house and giant slide. The National Guard will be having the climbing wall for all to enjoy. Besides all of these great attributes, Tom Terrific the Balloon Man will be roaming the park entertaining children with his magic touch. With all of this free entertainment, the OACDG hopes to see great crowds of people enjoying Sweet Corn Serenade. Enter your kids into the Hawkeye Pedal Pull contest sponsored by Titan Machinery and McKim Tractor. All children are welcome from ages 4-11. Register from 5:30 to 6:00. Competition begins at 6:00.

You will want to stop by the Iowa Building to see the historical, music display provided by members of the Oskaloosa Municipal Band and C.L. Barnhouse Co. Don’t miss the silent auction of the finished artwork created by the community in honor of the 100th Anniversary of the Bandstand at the FACE booth in the Square.

All of this fun and excitement could not be possible without bushels of volunteers. Raise your stalks to all of the area businesses, service groups, and countless individuals that make Sweet Corn Serenade an event to look forward to every year. If you would like your name added to the list of volunteers, let someone at Main Street (OACDG) know. Call 641.672.2591 or email khafner@oacdg.org
