MAHASKA COUNTY – Mahaska Health Partnership is pleased to introduce Dr. Peter Hoftiezer, a Family Practice physician joining the Medical Staff in July.

“Dr. Hoftiezer will help fill a void left in our community when some long-standing physicians retired or moved on,” MHP CEO Jay Christensen said. “While Dr. Hoftiezer will be treating patients of all ages, he has special interest in geriatrics and has additional training in the prevention and treatment of diseases and disabilities most commonly occurring in adults as they age.”

Dr. Hoftiezer and his family, including Dr. Tara Hoftiezer and 21-month-old twins, Ethan and Elise, will be moving to the community this summer. “Both Tara and I fell in love with Oskaloosa when we visited. I grew up spending summers in small towns and we really wanted to provide that life for our children,” Dr. Hoftiezer shared. “I like knowing my neighbors and spending time outdoors as a family.”

When asked why he chose MHP as a place to start his medical career, Dr. Hoftiezer said the community and MHP were the entire package he and his wife were looking for. “To practice in a setting where the surgeons are right down the hall and I can gently handoff my patients within the same health system is wonderful.

“Tara and I chose a community where we felt we could put down roots for our family,” Dr. Hoftiezer stressed. “I look forward to a long career at MHP and want patients to know I value the relationships I build with them. I plan on sticking around permanently and taking care of the same patients long-term.”

Dr. Hoftiezer obtained his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Mo. He and his family were most recently in Erie, Pa. where he completed a Geriatrics Fellowship program. “I take care of patients of all ages but I have a special empathy for people in their retirement years,” Dr. Hoftiezer said. “I enjoy sharing their life experiences and find it very rewarding when we can work together to balance multiple disease processes and medications.”

“The addition of Dr. Hoftiezer brings our primary care provider roster to more than 20; delivering on our commitment to make access to the services you and your family need easier and more convenient,” Christensen stressed.

Dr. Hoftiezer will begin seeing patients on the MHP campus in August and appointments are now being accepted. To make an appointment, please call 641.672.3360.
