Mahaska County Supervisors In Special Session For August 8

Mahaska County Supervisor Ken Rozenboom counts ballots to certify Fremont's special election of August 2nd.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The special election in Fremont August 2nd, over the ordinance granting to the Mahaska Rural Water System Inc. the right and non-exclusive franchise to maintain, and operate in the city of Fremont, Iowa a water distribution system.

Supervisor Chairman Willie Van Weelden was not present due to family issues, but Vice-Chair Greg Gordy and Ken Rozenboom were, along with Mahaska County Auditor Kay Swanson counted the votes, and certified the election results.

Six voters voted yes on the measure by absentee ballot, while 17 Fremont residents voted no on the measure of the 137 votes cast.

This measure will allow Mahaska Rural Water System Inc. to provide water for the town of Fremont for the next 25 years.

Also on the days agenda was the liquor license for Peppertree, with it passing and discussions of voting precincts for the upcoming elections discussed and formal plans will soon be made public.
