Oskaloosa, Iowa – The drought taking place has made the ground difficult to turn with a shovel, but that didn’t stop the Mahaska County Habitat for Humanity from making it happen.

The nonprofit is once again finding its legs after a year of regrouping, and is now finding a way to make a community impact in a big way.

The first of several builds and rehabs are happening soon. Lynette Walker and her family were the first to celebrate the groundbreaking excitement.

Officials from Mahaska County Habitat for Humanity were joined by Oskaloosa City Officials and the Walker family.

A time of prayer happened before everyone took turns with the shovel at 1212 1st Avenue West in Oskaloosa.

Other projects in the process include a house moving in Oskaloosa, and a home rehab in New Sharon.
