Maggie Mitrisin, 78, of Oskaloosa passed away Sunday evening, April 23, 2017, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. Marguerite “Maggie” H. Mitrisin, daughter of George Andrew and Emma Elizabeth (Cox) Mitrisin, was born January 5, 1939, in Oskaloosa.

Maggie was a 1957 graduate of Oskaloosa High School.

Maggie’s first jobs were with the Continental Overall Factory and Pepsi Cola. She eventually found her niche in the restaurant business, working as a cook and a waitress. She moved to Valley, Nebraska in 1980 and managed an Eagles Club and a Mexican Restaurant in Waterloo, NE. Maggie returned to Oskaloosa in 2002.

Maggie was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. auxiliaries. In her spare time, Maggie enjoyed cooking for her family, crossword puzzles and Cardinals Baseball. She was a people person and was a caregiver for numerous years to her family.

Her family includes: a daughter, Cindy McLaurin of Oskaloosa; a son, Tony Eveland of Oskaloosa; a granddaughter, Heather Hodge of St. George, South Carolina; a grandson, SFC Ryan Augustine of Alexandria, Virginia; five great-grandchildren: Blake and Grayson Hodge, and Caleb, Ashton, and Madilynn Augustine; and her grand-dog, Maggie.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Michael Andrew; her brothers: Bill, George, John and Jim Mitrisin; and her sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce (& Vince) Putnam and Kate (& Howard) Hudson.

A memorial service will be held for Maggie at 10:30 a.m., Saturday morning, April 29, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Rev. Derek Sellars officiating.
Visitation will be held Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. to service time.
Memorials may be made to the family and will be designated at a later date.
