Jean Williams, 96 of Barnes City passed away peacefully Thursday morning, January 10, 2019 at the Montezuma Specialty Care in Montezuma. Maybelle Jean McCulley Williams was born on November 14, 1922 to John Henry McCulley and Catherine Capehart in Keokuk County, Iowa.

Jean married Francis Merle Williams on May 5, 1940. Francis died on October 14, 2009, nearly 70 years of marriage.

During World War II, while Francis served in the army fighting in Germany, Jean worked in Omaha, Nebraska helping to build B-26 Marauder Bombers for the war at the Glen L. Martin Aircraft Company. After the war, Jean, Francis and their daughter Sharon established a home in Barnes City, Iowa.

Francis and Jean started and ran a Locker & Processing business in Barnes City for 17 years. Later Jean worked at the Barnes City and Keswick Postal Offices as a Postal Clerk until she retired in 1990.

Jean knew and loved the Lord, Jesus her Savior, her family and Sharon’s family, loved her parents, Brothers, and Sisters. Jean also loved gardening.

Her family includes her daughter, Sharon (& Richard) Rutherford of Barnes City; a granddaughter, Terri (& Jim) McDaniel of Helena, Montana; a grandson, Mike (& Barbara) Rutherford of Packwood, Iowa; a great granddaughter, Gabriele Rutherford of Davenport, Iowa and a great-great grandson, James (Jimmy) McDaniel of Helena, Montana. She is also survived by one sister, Hellen (& Jack) James of New Sharon, Iowa.

In addition to her husband, Jean was preceded in death by her parents; eight brothers: Marvin, Vernon, Donald, Kenneth, David, William “Bill”, Harlan and Robert “Bob” McCulley; two sisters: Elizabeth Acord and Margaret Sampson; and two infants, Rassie and Catherine.

Jean donated her body to the College of Medicine at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa.

Memorial services will begin at 11:00 am Friday, January 18, 2019 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma.
A visitation/luncheon will follow the service.
Burial will be held at a later date in the Barnes City Cemetery in Barnes City.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Care Initiatives Hospice.
