Lucille Shaffer, 95, of Beacon passed away Monday, April 8, 2019, at Northern Mahaska Specialty Care in Oskaloosa.
Lucille Frances Shaffer, daughter of Albert P. and Alice (Cavenaugh) Brown, was born February 7, 1924, in Oskaloosa.

Lucille attended school in Oskaloosa and married Lee Orah Smith in 1942. They made their home in Pella. They later divorced and she returned to Oskaloosa. Lucille married Earl Shaffer November 23, 1946, in Moberly, Missouri.

They made their home in Beacon and Lucille stayed at home to care for her children. Lucille enjoyed caring for her family and later babysat for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; she liked making those times special by cooking and baking their favorite treats and planning special activities.

Lucille enjoyed fishing with her husband, reading, watching old westerns, and cheering on the White Sox. Lucille was a member of Eastern Star and St. James Episcopal Church where she served on the altar guild.

Her family includes her children: Richard (& Kathryn) Smith of Pleasantville, Regina Bunnell of Oskaloosa, and Earl Jr. (& Diane) Shaffer of Oskaloosa; eight grandchildren: Sherri (& Matt) Gillette of Tucson AZ, Jerry (& Katina) Smith of Oskaloosa, Lori Glasgow of Oskaloosa, Michael Shaffer of Denver CO, Michele (& Ted) Harger of Oskaloosa, Darren Bunnell of West Point IA, Jeremy Bunnell of Oskaloosa, and Justin Bunnell of Nashville TN; 21 great-grandchildren: Andrew, Joe and Jack Gillette, Saydee Smith, Joshua (& Melinda) Harger, Zachery Harger, Darren Jr. Bunnell, Melissa Bunnell, Kiersten Bunnell and McKensie, Emily and Ashley Bunnell, Andrew, Alex, Gage, Gavin, Griffin, Violet and Lilah Shaffer and Joe and Gracie Glasgow; and five great-great-grandchildren: Sophia Nichols, Makayla and Alaina Harger, and Olivia Wineland.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl on Oct. 13, 1988; a grandson, Shawn Shaffer; great-grandson, Garret Shaffer; her sister, Ada Fisher; and a brother, Robert Brown.

Funeral services for Lucille will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 11, 2019, at St. James Episcopal Church with Rev. Terry Kleven officiating.
Burial will be in Beacon Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., Wednesday, at Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will greet visitors from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday evening.
