Loras deals Central women a road basketball defeat

DUBUQUE – Second chance and fast break points proved the difference for the Central College women’s basketball team in a 72-61 loss at Loras College Wednesday.

Loras (8-13, 4-8 American Rivers Conference) held an 18-5 advantage over Central (8-12, 3-8 conference) on second chance points and a 16-4 lead in fast break points.

The Dutch trailed by as much as 17 near the end of the first half but cut it all the way to a five-point deficit with a 10-0 run in the middle of the third quarter. Loras outpaced Central 24-21 in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Once again CeCe Moore (junior, Waterloo, West HS) led Central with 15 points and seven rebounds. Maddie Backer (freshman, New Ulm, Minn.) had 13 points and Emily Naughton (junior, Indianola) had 10. Naughton and Moore each had three assists. Jasmyn Williams (senior, Commerce City, Colo., Arvada West HS) had a pair of steals.

Central goes back to Dubuque on Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest with the University of Dubuque.
