Long Distrance Road Trip Nets Big Win For The Indians

Keokuk, Iowa – A two and a half hour road trip can cause about any team to come out slowly. The Indians were no exception on Friday night as the Chiefs looked to be in command of the game early on, but the Indians battled back from their sluggishness to end up running over the Keokuk Chiefs.

The Chief’s Drake Reiter put the first points of the contest on the board when he ran from 5 yards out. The PAT kick by Jordan Martin was good and the Chiefs lead 7-0 with 7:29 remaining on the clock in the first quarter.

The Indian’s Nate Van Veldhuizen plowed his way into the end-zone from 2 yards out with 5:16 remaining on the clock in the first quarter. The PAT kick by Nick Waters was good and the score is tied 7-7.

With just over 8 minutes remaining in the second quarter, a safety gave Keokuk the lead over the Indians 9-7, but Oskaloosa’s Nick Rutledge put Oskaloosa back on the board when he took off for an 83 yard TD run. A PAT pass to Nate Van Veldhuizen with 5:56 remaining in the second quarter has the Indians leading 15-9.

Ki-Jana DeJong reaches out and snags the interception and runs it back 65 yards for the TD with just 2:32 remaining in the second quarter. The PAT rush by Rutledge was good and the Indians lead was now 23-9.

Andrew Landgrebe then scores the first of his three touchdown runs when he rushes in from 1 yard out. Waters kick is good and the Indians lead 30-9 with just 37 seconds remaining in the half.

Landgrebe starts off the second half with a with a 5 yard run to score his second TD of the night. Waters kick is once again good and the Indians are leading 37-9.

A 45 yard sprint by Mason Wisse with 4:41 remaining in the 3rd quarter all but sealed the deal for the Indians as they now lead 44-9 after the PAT kick by Waters was good.

The final Indian score come with 1:43 remaining in the third quarter when Andrew Landgrebe runs in from 12 yards out for the TD, putting Oskaloosa up 51-9 on the Waters PAT kick. The game clock then took over as it didn’t stop because of the sizable lead the Indians had amassed.

The Chiefs weren’t done just yet, as Drake Reiter once again ran in for the TD, and once the PAT kick by Jordan Martin was through the uprights, the score was 51-16 for the Indians.
