Local Law Enforcement Arrest Man On Probation/Parole Violation After Lengthy Chase

Mahaska County, Iowa – On Sunday, November 11th, 2018, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the 5th Judicial Department of Corrections, out of Cedar Rapids. The Department of Corrections advised that they had information that 35-year-old Nicholas Daniel Cohrs was in the Mahaska County area and that he was wanted on a probation/parole violation. The original charge was Sexual Abuse.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. Sheriff’s Officials found Cohrs at the Mahaska Coin Op, located at 1414 A Avenue East. When officials approached Cohrs, he fled in his vehicle, a 2003 Jeep Liberty. Law Enforcement Officials pursued Cohrs several miles, from Oskaloosa to Cedar, Cedar to Kirkville and then to the Hedrick area where he wrecked the vehicle. Cohrs was uninjured in this accident. He was taken into custody and transported to the Mahaska County Jail. In addition to the probation/parole violation, Cohrs was charged with 1 count of Eluding Law Enforcement and multiple traffic citations. A charge of operating while intoxicated (drugged) is pending test results.

Nicholas Daniel Cohrs, of Coralville, was incarcerated in the Mahaska County Jail and will make his initial appearance in the Mahaska County Magistrate Court later this date. When Cohrs gets released from the Mahaska County Jail, he will be transferred to the Johnson County Jail.

The Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Oskaloosa Police Department and the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office with this matter.
