Local Entrepreneurs Looking To Win Big
Debbie Sedrel who owns Debbie’s Celebration Barn started her business after requests to use her barn for receptions came in after her own reception was held there.
Oskaloosa, Iowa – Starting a business and a growing business can be some of the most stressful times a business owner deals with. Having the capital to do just that, especially for small businesses, is a real challenge in today’s more competitive environment.
An online contest will help make those dreams easier for one lucky winner. Dream Big, Grow Here is an award winning business grant contest for Iowans to fulfill their dreams of self-employment or expansion of their current firm. Dreamers compete online for votes for a shot to win a $5,000 regional grant, and then become eligible to further compete for a chance to win a $10,000 grand prize.
Oskaloosa has three businesses entered in the contest. Debbie’s Celebration Barn, After Hours Archery and Silver Elements.
Debbie Sedrel used the barn for her own wedding reception. The Quonset style barn, according to Sedrel, is “just so unique. There’s not any like it.”
After her and her husband held their reception there, “then people kept saying that would be a good place to have our reception there.”
Her hopes are to do a three season hall. Her plans include cementing the main floor, adding inflatables for children. During the colder times of the year, she opens the barn up to RV storage.
Another local business looks to gain a boost from the grant as well. After Hours Archery. According to their profile on the Dream Big, Grown Here page, “After Hours is the dream business of Jeff, Jesse and Bill Greenhalgh/Goodman, all experienced bow hunters. We are dedicated to the mission of providing a place where people can truly reconnect with nature and each other, and take pleasure in the sport away from the hustle and bustle world.”
The other local business looking to expand is Silver Elements. “We are applying because we want to continue to grow. We are moving to a different location with more space. We would like to continue to add to our collection of unique inventory as well as purchase round tables.”
In order for a business to win, they need visitors to vote for them on their Dream Big, Grow Here page. The voting ends on October 17th at 5pm. You can vote once a day until the end of the contest.
