Cody Hicks is an up-and-coming country artist who loves a night in the dirt.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The smell of oil, dirt, sweat and Cam2 filled the air, while the rumble of stock cars competed against the latest single by country artist Cody Hicks from Montezuma, Iowa.

Hicks gained considerable attention last summer when he released his first video, “In The Morning.”

Since then, the group headed by lead singer Cody Hicks has continued to tour the Midwest while working on a further chance to be heard.

That next chance is the newly released single and video, “Left Turn.” Hicks and company filmed the video at the Southern Iowa Speedway on June 8th.

The song is for “people like me,” Hicks says. “People who race. They do it every weekend. They put all their money, everything into their cars just like we do our music. I feel like they are cut from the same cloth as me.”

Hicks then set pen to paper. He “wanted to write a song for them, paying homage to them [racers], because what I think they’re doing is awesome. It’s the same idea that I’ve got: chasing the dream.”

Chasing that dream can be a little more difficult for an artist like Hicks, who is working his way to Nashville from small-town Iowa. “It’s about 10 hours away, so for us to get anything done, it’s a little difficult.”

“I tell the guys, ‘we’ve got to just keep grinding it out and keep playing,'” says Hicks.

Locally, Hicks’s popularity has earned him stage space opening for acts like Phil Vasser and others, and he will be playing the final Friday After Five in Oskaloosa this August 5th.

Hicks calls his fan base “great” and he looks forward to getting to know more fans at events like Friday After Five. Events like Friday After Five help bring his talent into the open and beyond the walls of Midwest bars.

“It will be new people seeing me, which is good,” says Hicks. “Those town festivals are great.”

Within the first hour of being released, the new video ‘Left Turn’ had garnered over 10,000 views on Facebook alone. Racers and their fans had taken the song for their own, and were sharing it extensively on social media outlets.
