Booneville, Mo.–Byron Lindeque (Jr., Boksburg, South Africa, Public Accounting) accomplished something for the third time Tuesday that few golfers will ever experience even once as he led the William Penn men’s golf team at the Central Methodist Eagle Open.

Monday’s opening round was cancelled due to poor weather, shortening the event to 27 holes on Tuesday. William Penn placed fourth out of nine teams with a 27-hole score of 456 (313-143) at the par-71 Hail Ridge Golf Course. Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) won the team title with an even-par tally of 428 (285-143). The Wolves also had the top individual finisher as Justin Doeden was four-under-par at 103 (68-35).

The Open was WPU’s final action before the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships in two weeks (April 28-29).

The Statesmen were in a tie for sixth after the first 18 holes, but rallied behind Lindeque as the junior posted a hole-in-one on the 190-yard 17th hole. It is the third ace in Lindeque’s golfing career, while the squad’s nine-hole 143 tied CSU for the low round.

The hole-in-one helped Lindeque to a tie for fifth out of 50 players at 108 (75-33). Tyler Lallier (Jr., Algona, Iowa, Business Management) was next by tying for 12th at 113 (75-38).

Jeremy Swink (Jr., Burlington, Iowa, Education) and Brandon Dizon (Fr., San Leandro, Calif., Business Management) each shot even par in their final nine holes to move up the standings. Swink tied for 21st at 116 (80-36) and Dizon tied for 29th at 119 (83-36).

Kyle Hashimoto (Fr., Acampo, Calif., Undecided) wrapped up WPU’s scoring by tying for 37th at 125 (83-42).

In another preview of what life will look like in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, the Statesmen placed third out of five programs that will help make up the league in 2015-2016.

Next: William Penn has nearly two weeks off before traveling to Riverside on Monday-Tuesday, April 28-29 for the MCC Championships at Blue Top Ridge Golf Course.
