Linda Harden, 78 of New Sharon, passed away peacefully Friday evening, July 28, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City. Linda Lou Harden, the daughter of Harold and Lucille (Johnson) Scheuermann, was born on October 7, 1938 in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Linda attended Hazeldell Country School east of Oskaloosa before graduating from Oskaloosa High School in 1956. Linda then attended Iowa Methodist School of Nursing graduating in 1959.

On August 16, 1959, Linda was united in marriage to Ronald Harden at the United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa. To this union two children were born, Tamara and Greg.

Linda worked in the surgical department in Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa before joining Ron, while he was in the service, in New York and Texas where she continued to nurse. In 1964, Ron and Linda moved to What Cheer where Ron worked for his father in the funeral home. Ron and Linda purchased the funeral home in What Cheer in 1966, eventually purchasing the New Sharon funeral home. Linda was very active in the funeral home where she did the bookkeeping, styled hair and helped in the funeral home wherever she was needed. Linda was also the head nurse for the New Sharon Nursing Home for a short time to help them get up and going.

In 1989, Ron and Linda retired and moved to Lake Havasu City, Arizona to be closer to their children. In 2005, they moved back to New Sharon and wintered in Chandler, AZ.

Linda was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing cards, swimming at the lake and socializing at Prairie Knolls Country Club. Linda was a member of the Iowa Methodist Nurses Association, New Sharon and What Cheer United Methodist Church, a charter member of Prairie Knolls Country Club, Tri-County Boosters Club and Spring Creek Time Savers 4-H Club.

Linda is survived by her husband of nearly 58 years, Ron Harden of New Sharon; two children: Tamara (& Jim) Bell of Queen Creek, Arizona and Greg (& Lisa) Harden of Phoenix, Arizona; four grandchildren: Nick Bell of Queen Creek, Arizona, Hannah Bell of Queen Creek, Arizona, Max Harden of Mesa, Arizona and Ben Harden of Phoenix, Arizona; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth “Betty” Smith of Mountain Home, Idaho; a niece, Sandy Fields; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Lucille Scheuermann; a sister in infancy, Janet Scheuermann; parents-in-law, Max and Irene Harden; brother-in-law, Fred Smith; and a niece, Debbie Smith.

Memorial services will be held at 11:30 am Sunday, August 6, 2017 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in New Sharon.
Burial will be held in the Friends Cemetery in New Sharon.
A visitation/luncheon will follow the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the New Sharon United Methodist Church or Prairie Knolls Country Club.
