Des Moines–Unfortunately, his first trip to the biggest stage did not go as well as he wanted as Max Lewis (So., Duchesne, Utah, Biology) competed at the NAIA Wrestling National Championships Friday.

The sophomore heavyweight entered as the #12 seed, but faced two grapplers ranked inside the top six. After drawing a bye, he started his Championships experiences with a second-round matchup against #5 Quandre Chisolm of Cumberlands (Ky.). Lewis fell short, falling 5-0, and was bounced to the consolation bracket.

Lewis then met #6 Matt Hopkins of Providence (Mont.), but ended his trip by being pinned in a time of 2:41. He finished his sophomore campaign at 16-8.

As a team, William Penn did not get on the board, while Grand View is on its way to another crown. The Vikings had 98.5 points after the first day, while Cumberlands was a distant second with 67 points.
