Letter To The Editor: When Your Community Feels Like Home

This past Saturday, July 7, was a beautiful day in Oskaloosa. The weather was about as perfect as you could ask for and so many community members were taking advantage of the gorgeous day. I first visited Lacey Recreation Complex where a volunteer group, The Garfield Boosters 4-H Club, Mahaska County were trimming landscape at the Mahaska Recreation Trial Round-a-bout; then moving onto the sports complex, a class reunion, Class of 78, had riders taking a trail tram tour around the trail. Along the rec trail, there were riders on bikes and someone fishing in the Lacey complex pond. Going into town, vendors were in The Alley selling a variety of crafts and community members were shopping and enjoying delicious coffee! Looking around, the community was hopping with activity, much more than just the visits mentioned, people were engaged in so many activities and the feeling was the same on the previous night with Friday after Five and Jay Zimmerman in The Alley…we have an amazing community, feels like home!
