Letter To The Editor: Vote For Kathryn Kaul-Goodman

Editors Note: The views and opinions expressed in this editorial are not necessarily the views or opinions of Oskaloosa News.

As a Mahaska County citizen, I would like to ask you to vote for Kathryn Kaul-Goodman. She will support our county as a whole. Not just the rural areas or the outskirts of our towns, but the entire county! Kathryn sees our communities, large or small, city or country as one county.

It is time for new leadership in Mahaska County and I believe Kathryn Kaul- Goodman is a great choice. In all of my adult years I have never put a political sign in my yard, nor have I knocked on doors for a candidate, taken one to a club meeting or held a meet and greet. However, that has changed this year for this election. Although I am a Republican, I cannot waste my vote on her opponent. Our right to vote is a given privilege in which I intend to use wisely and for the betterment of our communities. I have lived in Oskaloosa for many years now and have sat on many boards, volunteered on many committees and have been an active member of a few outstanding clubs. I call Oskaloosa and Mahaska County home.

Mahaska County deserves better than what we have now. There has been too much time and money wasted on frivolous lawsuits and the hiring of an economic development director whom we are paying $100,000/year plus benefits when the average salary for this position statewide is between $60,000 – $65,000/year. There has also been too much animosity between the county and the city since the existing chair was elected. I believe Kathryn can help bring our folks together, and again, for the betterment of our communities.

We, as citizens of Mahaska County, deserve better than what we have now. It is time for a change.
