Letter To The Editor: I Am Writing In Concern To The Proposed South Central Regional Airport

Letter to the Editor I am writing in concern to the proposed South Central Regional Airport. The cities of Pella and Oskaloosa claim that it will bring business and Industry and could possibly be a top 10 airport in Iowa. In the SCRAA statement of purpose they also have a statement saying “we do not expect to raise taxes”. With 3 other airports nearby and Des Moines not that far I think it is senseless.
I have another proposal. There are no major truck travel centers between Mount Pleasant and Altoona on Highway 163. I think they should be looking at Loves, Flying J, TA, or Pilot to come in west of Oskaloosa. Or if The Pella airport is not useful convert that area to a Travel Center. It would not take 600 acres of prime land- probably only 25 or 30 acres. It would bring in revenue and tax dollars . it would benefit all the people in the area because virtually everything we have is brought in by a truck. It would help solve a truck parking shortage problem. It would provide more jobs than an airport .
