Letter To The Editor: Encourage Everyone to Educate Themselves On The Candidates

Election years tend to bring a lot of debate and controversy to the world at both the local and national levels. The upcoming primary election on June 7 for the citizens of Mahaska County gives each one of us the privilege to exercise our right to vote.

Before you vote, I would like to encourage everyone to educate themselves on the candidates. Sometimes the best candidate may not be the person you like the most or have the closest relationship with. Our county must grow in order remain viable! The city and county residents and employees must work together to accomplish this goal. Our next county supervisor must possess high levels of leadership and communication skills. Being an effective leader means you must listen to the concerns and suggestions of your fellow colleagues and the constituents that you represent. Effective leaders will need to research the topic and make the best possible decision for the good of the entire county; not any single special interest group. If you were unable to make it to the supervisor forums, I encourage you to watch them online. It is clear that one candidate has the ability and most important the willingness to lead our county forward. Valinn has the experience to make our county grow and the willingness to work with everyone in a professional manner to do so. I believe one of her greatest strengths is that she is not originally from Mahaska County. This gives her the ability to make unbiased, informed decisions. She has a passion for the entire community, both incorporated and unincorporated areas, and will work hard to make Mahaska County a better place to live for ourselves and generations to come!!
