Leslie Leroy Curry (Les) age 83, passed into God’s hands on Sunday, July 7, 2019 at St. Francis Manor In Grinnell. Les was born June 21, 1936, in Browntown, Mahaska County, Iowa, son of Fred and Vera (Grubb) Curry.

Les graduated from Montezuma High School in 1954. Soon after graduation, he enlisted in the Army, serving two years active duty. He trained as a tank driver and crane operator then traveled to the DEW Line in northern Alaska.

Les was united in marriage to Patsy Lou (Davis) in 1956. From this union 2 sons were born, Gary Dean and Scott Leroy.

Les was a crane operator for Godberson-Smith Construction of Ida Grove, Iowa, for more than 40 years.

In 1985, Les was united in marriage to Mary (Grandstaff) Ahrens. Les and Mary resided in Deep River, Iowa, until September 2016, when they moved to Grinnell.

Les was an avid hunter, fisherman and conservator of our environment. He loved gardening and caring for the animals on his small acreage. Les always had a deep love of family and was a proud patriot of our military and country. He was a member of the Deep River American Legion for over 40 years and attended St. John Lutheran Church in Victor.

Left to survive him are his brother, Ronald Curry; his 2 sons, Gary (& Penny) Curry and Scott (& Colleen) Curry; 4 step-children: Teresa (& Dan) Ziegenmeyer, William (& Janet) Ahrens, Russell (& Cathy) Ahrens and Laura (& Jerry) Hamlett; grandchildren; great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Vera; a brother, Keith; his wife, Mary; a sister-in-law, Erma; a niece, Lori; and a stepson, Kenny.

Funeral services will begin at 1:00 pm Friday, July 12 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma.
Burial will be held in the Barnes City Cemetery. Holland-Coble Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Deep River American Legion and to St. John Lutheran Church at Victor.
