Leighton Kicks Off The Independence Day Weekend With Community And Fun

The Stars and Stripes flies in the breeze at Leighton's evening of festivities

Leighton, Iowa – With the hot weather fresh on everyone’s mind, hundreds of people lined the street in Leighton to watch the quintessential 4th of July Parade.

The Leighton Lions Club served a freewill dinner with beefburgers, hotdogs and just about any dessert you can imagine topped off with ice cream. The All-Star Girls softball game started at 7:00 p.m., with the parade kicking off around 7:30.

A unicyclist, a man on stilts, a float, antique tractors, and pace cars filed past spectators in downtown Leighton. There was more candy than most kids could carry away.

Games were being played in the parking lot of Ebenezer Reformed Church, with Ring Toss being one of the more popular of the evening.

Fireworks topped off the evening’s fun at 10:00.
