Larry McMahan, 65 of New Sharon passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at the Pella Comfort House. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the Bethel Baptist Church in Oskaloosa. Visitation will begin after 2:00 pm Friday, October 1, 2010 at the Harden Funeral Home with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Interment will be held in the Union Mills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Pella Hospice, Bethel Baptist Church or the New Sharon Fire and Rescue.
Larry Edward McMahan, son of Gerald and Jessie (Braden) McMahan was born on June 8, 1945 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was a 1963 graduate of North Mahaska High School and attended William Penn University in Oskaloosa. Larry Enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1965. After Larry was honorably discharged, he went to work for Vermeer Manufacturing as a Machinist retiring in 2009 after 37 years. On January 20, 1979, he was united in marriage to Lauris Davis at the Bethel Baptist Church in Oskaloosa. To this union two children were born, Ryan and Raun. Larry enjoyed gardening, traveling and his grandchildren. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Oskaloosa.
His memory is honored by his wife of 31 years, Lauris McMahan of New Sharon; two sons, Ryan (Sara) McMahan of Pella and Raun (Summer) McMahan of New Sharon; three grandchildren, Kailey McMahan, Autumn McMahan and Austin McMahan and a sister, Doris (Marvin) Freeborn of Barnes City.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Jessie McMahan; a brother, Roger McMahan and four sisters, Illa Ruth McMahan, Geraldine McMahan, Caroline McMahan and Roena McMahan.
