Larry Kerr, 81, of Oskaloosa, died Friday, March 15, 2019, at Crystal Heights Nursing and Rehab Center in Oskaloosa. He was born Tuesday June 1, 1937, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Oakland Forrest and Myrtle Sorber Kerr.

Larry grew up in Morning Sun and attended Morning Sun school. When he was “of age”, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in Germany following the Korean War. He was later honorable discharged. Following his discharge, he stayed in Maryland for a brief time before moving back to Burlington.

Larry married Karen Morrison on May 1, 1962 in Moline, Illinois, they later divorced.

He worked various construction jobs around Iowa and the Midwest. He worked the last 20 years with Sheller Globe Corporation in Iowa City, Iowa.

After retirement Larry resided in West Chester, Iowa with his brother Leonard. He was a very talented handy man always willing and eager to help friends and family work on their homes or vehicles. Larry enjoyed many things in his life, some of which included picking guitars with family at gatherings. He loved animals, caring for strays, and his pets, especially Buddy the Beagle. He also loved fishing, and mushroom hunting.

His family includes his two children; Larry (& Diana) Kerr Jr. of Oskaloosa, Iowa; Teresa (& Charlie) Gray; six Grandchildren: Jerry (& Holly) Groom, Ryan (& Erica) Groom, Trish Groom, Katey Kerr, Kasey Kerr, and Jake (& Crystal) Kerr; 14 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Colleen Glisan, Mary Dell Tusing; one brother; George Leonard Kerr; and a granddaughter, Stephanie Kerr.

Graveside Memorial service and burial with military honors will be held Saturday March 23, 2019 at 10:30 AM in Elm Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Bates Funeral Chapel.
Visitation will begin Wednesday, March 20, 2019, after 11:00 AM in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be present at the funeral chapel from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Wednesday evening to greet friends and relatives.
