Kyle Joe Braundmeier, 45, of Oskaloosa, died Friday, July 7, 2017, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. He was born April 18, 1972, in Granite City, Illinois, the son of Bob and Carol Easley Braundmeier.

Kyle graduated from Granite City High School in Granite City with the class of 1990. He was a lifelong learner and educator. He earned his B.A. in music from Truman State University (formerly known as Northeast Missouri State University) in Kirksville, Missouri. Kyle received his M.A. in School Administration from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri. Lastly, he earned his Administrative Endorsement from Drake University.

On May 26, 1995, Kyle was united in marriage to Jennifer Van Mersbergen in Oskaloosa. To this union three children were born: Samantha, Abigail, and Holden.

Early on Kyle taught Instrumental Music at Knox County High School in Edina, Missouri. He later taught Vocal Music at Hermann High School in Missouri. In 2002, Kyle and his family moved to Oskaloosa where he became the Vocal Music Teacher at the Oskaloosa Middle School and Oskaloosa Elementary. He was also the Activities Director at the Oskaloosa Middle School. He completed the 2016-2017 school year even though his health was beginning to decline.

He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Oskaloosa where he served as an ordained elder, clerk of session, choir director, organist, pianist, and took an active role in many of the church musicals. He was also active in Oskaloosa Community Theatre and many high school musical productions.

For the past several years Kyle thoroughly enjoyed calling the high school varsity basketball and softball games. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing, cooking, and listening to music. He always looked-for opportunities to be creative at the keyboard and in the kitchen. Kyle delighted in spending time with his family and friends.

His family includes his wife of over 22 years, Jennifer Braundmeier of Oskaloosa; three children: Samantha Braundmeier, Abigail “Abby” Braundmeier, and Holden Braundmeier all at home; his parents, Bob & Carol Braundmeier of Granite City, Illinois; a brother, Kevin (& Donna) Braundmeier of Edwardsville, Illinois; his father and mother in law, Kenneth & Donna Van Mersbergen of Oskaloosa; two brothers in law: Tim Van Mersbergen of Florida, and Philip Van Mersbergen of Altoona; three sisters in law: Jane Rujawitz of Edwardsville, Illinois, Vahn Baccam-Williams of Indianapolis and Carrie Van Mersbergen of Oskaloosa; nieces and nephews: Adam (& Julie) Braundmeier, Aaron (& Morgan) Braundmeier, Anna Van Mersbergen, Elizabeth Van Mersbergen, Paige Van Mersbergen, Spencer Van Mersbergen, and Faith Van Mersbergen; a great nephew, Chase Braundmeier; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Kyle was preceded in death by his grandparents, Raymond & Olie Mae Braundmeier and Joe & Clara Easley; and Jenny’s grandparents: Lawrence & Anna Van Mersbergen and Donald & Betty Lathrop.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at 10:00 am in the First Presbyterian Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Don Stribling officiating.
Burial will be in the Henness Cemetery southwest of Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Monday after 11:00 in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 4:00 to 8:00 pm to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church Piano and Organ Fund or to the Oskaloosa Booster Club for the new softball complex.
