Kohlhaas joins Central coaching staff

Central College

PELLA—Tara Kohlhaas is a new assistant volleyball coach at Central College.

A former team co-captain at Kirkwood Community College, Kohlhaas led the Eagles to two fifth-place finishes in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) championship before graduating from the Univ. of South Carolina Upstate with a degree in physical education.

Kohlhaas was an assistant coach and head of the junior varsity at Marion High School, helping guide the varsity to a second-place conference finish. She coached the freshman squad in 2009. Kohlhaas served as a junior varsity coach at Belle Plaine High School from 2003-05, before being named head coach in 2007. Earlier she was an assistant coach at Mount Mercy University.

At Central, Kohlhaas will work with the varsity and also serve as head junior varsity coach. She replaces Rhea Softley, who left Pella with her family after two seasons with the Dutch.

Central posted its 20th consecutive winning season in 2010, compiling a 20-13 overall record with a 5-3 Iowa Conference mark. The Dutch open the 2011 campaign Sept. 2-3 at the Augustana (Ill.) Invitational in Rock Island, Ill.
