KIPROP PACES WARRIORS AT PLATTE RIVER RUMBLE GOLD

Ashland, Ne – Sophomore Brian Kiprop (Eldoret, Kenya/Kingston College) made a splash in his season debut to lead the No. 23 nationally ranked Indian Hills Men’s Cross Country squad at the Platte River Rumble Gold at Mahoney State Park on Friday morning. As a team, the Warriors placed fourth overall.

Kiprop was the second National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) finisher at the event, placing 16th overall with a time of 19:51.3 in the 6k event to pace the Warriors. Fellow sophomore Kohlby Newsom (Winfield, IA/Winfield Mt. Union), making his cross country debut for Indian Hills, placed 20th overall to score for the Warriors with a time of 20:35.6

Freshman David Moran (Annaville, PA/Annville-Cleona) crossed the finish line in 25th place with a time of 21:05.9 followed by fellow freshman Gabriel Tejada’s (Fairfield, IA/Fairfield) time of 21:45.4, good enough for 32nd overall. Freshman Daniel Gonzalez (Rockford, IL/Oregon) rounded out the team scoring with a 33rd place finish, clocking a time of 21:53.3.

Collectively, the Warriors scored 106 team points in the event to finish behind team champion Kansas State University, Creighton University, and Iowa Western Community College.

The Warriors return to action September 18 with the Bradley Intercollegiate in Peoria, IL at Detweiller Park.
