June Rene Barber, 81, of Merrionette Park, Illinois, died Thursday, December 29, 2016, at the Palos Community Hospital in Palos Heights, Illinois. She was born August 20, 1935, in Bussey, Iowa, the daughter of Willis Cleo and Mary J.C. Bowie Spaur.
June graduated from Bussey High School in Bussey, Iowa. On April 27, 1957, she was united in marriage to Eugene F. Barber in Chicago, Illinois. Eugene died on December 25, 1998.
Following their marriage June worked in Chicago as a waitress at various restaurants. She later went to work in the warehouse at the Kendall Company in Chicago. Following her time at Kendall, June helped care for elderly people in their homes. She retired in 1997.
June enjoyed caring for her family and others, working in her yard, and baking.
Her surviving family includes her son and his wife, Eugene (& Lori) Barber, Jr. of Oak Lawn, Illinois; three grandchildren: John Barber, Melissa Barber, and Joseph Barber; two sisters: Pearl Kephart of LuVerne, Minnesota and Julia Kerr of Oskaloosa, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Eugene F. Barber, Sr., June was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Harold Spaur; and a sister, Josephine McGee.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at 12 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery at Bussey, Iowa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday morning from 10:00 until service time at 12 noon.
