John Matthew Cheman, 55, of Eddyville, died Sunday, December 25, 2016, at his home in Eddyville. He was born Sunday, January 15, 1961, in Buffalo, New York, the son of John Matthew and Frances Michalsky Cheman.

John graduated from West Seneca High School with the Class of 1979.

Following school, John joined the U.S. Navy. He later moved to Iowa. He worked at Clow and Excel for a time.

John loved music, especially playing his guitar and singing. He was an avid Buffalo Bills fan. His daughter was his everything.

He is survived by his daughter, Alyssa Cheman of Cedar Rapids; his mother, Frances Cheman of Buffalo, NY; three sisters: Fran Cheman and Jessica (& Mark) Bishop both of Buffalo and Jennifer Cheman of Washington state; and two brothers: Joe Cheman and Jim (& Jennal) Cheman, both of Buffalo.

He was preceded in death by his father; his maternal and paternal grandparents; and two grandsons: Emmett Cheman and Burton Karr.

As was his wish, John’s body has been cremated.
No services are planned at this time. Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
