Served With Honor ~ United States Military Veteran

John Gorsuch, age 90, of Montezuma, Iowa, died at his home on August 23, 2018. John was born May 4, 1928, the son of Louis and Myrtle Gorsuch, and raised on their family farm east of Montezuma.

John was a talented musician at an early age. He played alto saxophone in fifth grade, often led the high school band, and had a lovely tenor voice in the church choir.

John joined the United States Navy in 1945-1946 and following basic training was sent to Okinawa and then stationed on the USS Holland near Manila.

Following his tour in the Navy he graduated with his senior class at the Montezuma High School.

After high school he formed dance bands with other Monte musicians who also enjoyed making music together, but farming became the primary focus in his future.

On June 15, 1947 John was united in marriage to Barbara Hudson, and they lived and worked together on the farm for forty years until her death in 1990.

They were active in the Montezuma First Presbyterian Church (USA) and John served as an Elder and Trustee for many years. He also served on the Board of Poweshiek Mutual Insurance Association for twenty years, was a member of the Barnes City Cooperative, and numerous other community organizations.

After Barbara’s death, John was fortunate to know Kathleen Wright through church gatherings, and their friendship developed through the year leading to their marriage on January 5, 1991. Through good and lean years of hard work John was able to expand and sustain the family’s farm. He will be remembered for his generosity and loving care for family and friends.

John is survived by his wife Kathleen Wright-Gorsuch; daughter, Nancy Gorsuch and her husband David Isch; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Gorsuch; stepson, Steve Wright and his wife Brenda; stepdaughter, Joleen Willardson and her husband Ben; granddaughters: Kristine Diffor, Angela Widner, Alexandria Willardson, and Isabella Willardson; grandsons: Robert Gorsuch, Daniel Isch, Konrad Isch, Brett Wright, and Nick Wright; and many beloved great grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 with visitation at 10:00 a.m. and the service of remembrance at 11:00 a.m. at Holland-Coble Funeral Home, 201 W. Main Street in Montezuma.
The committal service and interment will follow at the Jackson Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, family and friends are encouraged to make memorial contributions to Unity Point Grinnell Regional Hospice.
