John Avery Bunyan, 84 formerly of Montezuma passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2016. John was born on September 3, 1932 in Collins, Iowa to Henry and Edna Runyan.

John graduated from Collins High School in 1950 and served as a gunner’s mate on two US Navy Destroyers. John graduated from Drake University with a degree in accounting.

After college, John went on to work for several large companies in the United States and Canada. He then decided to start his own business, John’s Furniture and Appliance in Grinnell, Iowa.

John is survived by his wife, Nadine and his children, Ryan, Rob, Rachele, Roberta, Rhonda and Paul. He is also survived by Nadine’s children Lynn, Sherry, Douglas, Kent, Julie, and Dirk; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, great grandchildren and host of friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Edna, his sisters Patty and Betty and his brother Bob.

A celebration of life will begin at 10:30 am Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the First Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Montezuma.
Burial will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Collins, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Evangelical Church, 303 East Washington St., Montezuma, Iowa 50171.
Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.
