James A. Jansen, 64, of Oskaloosa died Sunday, October 14, 2018, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. He was born October 10, 1954, in Mahaska County the son of Everett G. and Evelyn Vance Jansen.

Jim graduated from Pella Christian High School with the class of 1972.

Following high school, he continued to work on the family farm. After a few years he got a job at Edgetown Canvas in Oskaloosa. He later went on to work at U.S. Fiber in Oskaloosa and various other places in the area.

On July 10, 1978, he was united in marriage to Sandra Moffet at the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa.

In 1989, Jim and Sandy opened Jansen Parts and Service in Oskaloosa. They have owned and operated that business ever since. In 2007, he started Roim Industrial painting, and was still active in that business until the last few months of his life.

Jim enjoyed riding his Harley. He always looked forward to he and Sandy’s yearly motorcycle trips. He was a member of H.O.G. He also enjoyed deer hunting and working in his shop.

His family includes his wife of over 40 years, Sandy Jansen of Oskaloosa; three daughters: Jamie Voss of University Park, Chanda (& Luke) Vande Wall of Osklaoosa and Andra (& Eric) Gunsolley of Oskaloosa; seven grandchildren: Jesse, Carlie, Lyndsey, Jocelyn, Aiden, Daffney, and Andrian; a brother, Mark Jansen of Oskaloosa; a sister, Karla (& Lee) VerMeer of Columbus, Ohio; two nephews, Craig VerMeer and Todd VerMeer; and two aunts, Peggy Vance and Lee Wordeman.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

As was Jim’s wish his body has been cremated.
Visitation will begin Thursday, October 18, 2018, at 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel. Jim’s family will be at the funeral chapel from 4-6 Thursday evening to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Jim Jansen Memorial Fund.
