Jerrald “Jerry” Van Englehoven
Jerrald “Jerry” Van Englehoven, 74, of Reeds Spring, Missouri and formerly of Oskaloosa died on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at his home in Reeds Spring. He was born on Wednesday, September 15, 1937 in the Scott Township of Mahaska County, the son of John and Ethel Houser Van Englehoven. He graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1955 and was a recipient of the Benz Award in 1954. He was an excellent athlete and excelled at track and football. Following graduation he attended Central College and William Penn College for a time. He married Shirley Holub-Masterson and from that marriage 3 children were born: Kris, Craig, and Brad. He then married Marilyn Shirlaw-Stephenson and from that union his daughter Nicole was born. He owned and operated Iowa Slurry and Seal Asphalt Company in Oskaloosa until moving to Reeds Spring. While in Missouri he worked as a sporting goods salesman in the Table Rock Lake and Reeds Spring area for 25 years. He was an avid fisherman and fished many Bass tournaments. He loved hunting and his grandchildren were extremely important to him. He was a lifetime member of the Elks in Oskaloosa and attended Central United Methodist while he lived in Oskaloosa.
Jerry’s family includes his 3 sons: Kris (Tammy Applegate) Van Englehoven of Oskaloosa, Craig (& Lois) Van Englehoven of Magnolia, Texas, and Brad Van Englehoven of Boone, Iowa; a daughter: Nicole (& Greg) Rantz of Reeds Spring, Missouri; 8 grandchildren: Kelsey and Eric Van Englehoven, David (& Remy) Van Englehoven, Michael Van Englehoven, Katie (& Nick) Clifton, Holly Van Englehoven, and Jacob and Paige Rantz; and a sister: Janice (& Stan) Holmes of Baxter Springs, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother: John Van Englehoven.
As was his wish his body has been cremated and no visitation is planned. A private family graveside service will be held in the Bellefountaine Cemetery. Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Jerry Van Englehoven Memorial Fund.
