ISU Extension and Outreach – Mahaska County offering 4-H Summer Fun Day Camps

Iowa State University Extension

Iowa State University Extension

The entire month of June will be filled with lots of fun and engaging opportunities for young people to make new friends, learn new things, and gain important life skills. Camps will kick-off on June 1 with the Babysitting Basics day camp. Participants will learn about babysitting through hands-on activities and interaction with children. The next two camps will be Express Yourself and Express Yourself Jr, where students who have completed Kindergarten-8th grade can spend two days playing games, gaining communication skills, learning about presentations, and gaining confidence in themselves. DIY Design Stars will give participants an opportunity to be creative and make fun projects and crafts. Participants will learn about room design and will make their own magnet boards. How It’s Made day camp will give participants an inside look at how everyday items are made, especially food! After taking a tour of the Frisian Farms Cheese Shop, participants will get in the kitchen to learn about ingredients and chemical reactions needed to make food. Grossology is a returning camp where young students will learn about the human body and all things gross through hands-on fizzy, fluffy, and gooey activities. Games in the Park is just that! Participants will have opportunities to spend their days at either Edmundson Park in Oskaloosa or the City Park in Eddyville to play games, have fun in the sun, eat some healthy snacks, and to gain teamwork, leadership, and communication skills. We’ll finish out the month with the returning STEAMblast day camp for younger students. Participants will learn about science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math through hands-on activities, experiments, and group work. All of these day camps are available at very reasonable prices and we have partial financial assistance available. If participants register for all of the day camps they are eligible to attend, a discount will be given. Visit www.extension.iastate.edu/mahaska to learn more about the camps and to access a registration form. Registration forms and fees can be turned in to the Mahaska County ISU Extension and Outreach office at 212 North I Street in Oskaloosa. Deadlines are approaching, so register TODAY!
