Iris Palmer, 98 passed away Sunday morning, November 11, 2018 at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell eight days short of her 99th birthday. Iris Eileen Palmer, the daughter of Elmer and Lenora (Ramey) Schenck, was born on November 19, 1919 in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Iris grew up in New Sharon and graduated from New Sharon High School.

Iris married Samuel R. Gorsuch on March 5, 1938 in Lancaster, MO. To this union one son was born, Robert.

Sammy and Iris farmed south of Montezuma most of their lives. Following Samuel’s death in 1978, Iris went to work at Sig’s Manufacturing in Montezuma.

Iris married Marion Palmer on November 21, 1985. They lived in Montezuma, Grinnell and West Des Moines before moving to St. Francis Manor in Grinnell in 2010.

Iris was a member of the Montezuma First Presbyterian Evangelical Church.

Her memory is honored by her son, Robert (& Donna) Gorsuch of Lake of the Ozarks, MO; her granddaughters, Kelli (& Paul) Schuette of West Des Moines, Keri (& Scott) Thomas of Adel and Bobbi Jo (& Wade) Wojewoda of Grimes; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; Marion’s children, Mary Pat (& John) Lebeck of Frisco, Texas, Fred (& Rosemary) Palmer of Nauvoo, Illinois, Karen (& Jim) North of Jefferson, Iowa, and Kathy (& Steve) Bowers of Coralville, Iowa; several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Iris is preceded in death by her husbands, Samuel Gorsuch and Marion Palmer.

Private family graveside services and burial will be held on her 99th birthday in the IOOF Masonic Cemetery in Montezuma.
