Iowa Ag Secretary Mike Naig to Headline Ottumwa Farm Show

If you see farm equipment on the road this week, its likely not going to a nearby field – but probably headed to the annual farm and ag show in Ottumwa.

Newly sworn-in Ag Secretary Mike Naig will be a guest speaker at the 47th annual Cornbelt Cow-Calf Conference and KIIC Ag Show this Friday and Saturday in Ottumwa. Naig will be speaking during the lunch session at Bridgeview Center where hundreds of area farmers and ag enthusiasts gather to learn the latest in products, services, farming methods and of course ramifications from the political winds.

In between sessions, attendees to the free show will have the opportunity to check out what vendors have to offer in the expo hall where over 120 booths will be full with equipment and services.

Doors open Friday at 3 pm. Purina hosts a Breeders and Brokers session at 4 pm in the Hayloft – then the Iowa Corngrowers Association will be hosting a free food and beverage reception from 5-7 where all the food items served has some sort of corn ingredient. The Marshall County Hangmen will entertain during the kick-off party.

On Saturday, doors open at 8 am (once again free admission) and the first 650 in the door will get their beef lunch free. Informative sessions start at 9 am covering topics such as Cover Crops, Farm Succession Planning, Feed Efficiency, Animal Handling for Low Stress, Water Systems and more. Congressman Dave Loebsack will be on hand to discuss the latest on Rural Broadband and the Farm Bill’s impacts.

Door prizes will be announced every 30 minutes and admission is free. Hours are 3-7pm on Friday and 8am-4pm Saturday. More information and a complete schedule can be found at www.regionalfarmshow.com
