Ione Kirby Klein, 88, of Oskaloosa, died at the Oskaloosa Care Center on April 1, 2019. She was born on Sunday, February 1, 1931, near Rose Hill, Iowa, the daughter of Marvin and Lucille Hollingsworth Kirby.

Ione attended country schools for six years before graduating from Lacey Consolidated High School in 1949.

Ione was united in marriage to Brand (Sonny) Klein on May 23, 1949 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. To this union two sons were born, Allen Eugene and Steven Lee. The couple celebrated 59 years of marriage before Sonny passed away in 2009.
The couple always lived around Oskaloosa.

Ione worked at Sybenga Studio as a receptionist. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Arnold Motor Supply and the YMCA. She retired in 1992.

Some of her favorite things were bus trips with her girlfriends. Some of her favorite places they went were Nashville, Branson, and The House on the Rocks. She also enjoyed craft shows, and aquacising at the YMCA. She also participated in TOPS with her sister for 25 plus years.

She is survived by her son, Allen Klein of Oklahoma; Two grandchildren, Ben (& Danielle) Klein and Sheila Klein; Six great grandchildren: Chase and Alexis Hougland, and Kailee, Kraven, Killian, and Shyann Klein; Three sisters-in-law, Peggy Klein, Dena Ott, Darlene Kirby; Brother-in-law, Samuel Foster; and several nieces and nephews.

Ione was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sonny; son, Steven; sister, Norma Foster; brother, Marvin Jr. Kirby; two sisters-in-law, Nellie and Hazel Klein; three brothers-in-law, Elmer and Ivan Klein, Irvin Ott;

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 4, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. in the Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa with Pastor Jon Nelson officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery at Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Wednesday after 12:00 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 6-8 Wednesday evening to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Oskaloosa YMCA.
