Indians Win On Senior Night
by Coach Jodi Steinlage
The Oskaloosa Girls’ soccer team was in action last night against Fairfield for Senior Night. The girls would play a very good 1st half with complete control of the game and score 3 goals by Emma Basham-Castilo (assist to Brooke Engelhardt), Mary Nelson (assist to Aleeya Cheney) and Lindy Slocum (assist to Cheney) to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.
“We took a little bit to warm up offensively but controlled a large part of the 1st half. After we got the first goal, we settled down even more and were really able to move the ball and get several quality shots.”
The 2nd half would find the Indians with much of the same at the beginning of the half with coming out and controlling the tempo and the ball. However, Fairfield would take advantage of 2 mental mistakes by the Indians to bring the once not so close game to a 3-2 scramble. The Indians would hold on for dear life and come away with the victory to move their record to 4-5.
“The 1st part of the 2nd half, we looked really good, but a few mental errors on our part brought Fairfield to life and gave them some hope in a game that was being completely dominated by us. We have talked about not allowing teams to get back in a game and taking care of business for the whole 80 minutes. However, we are proud that they held on and found a way to win and send our Seniors out with a win on their night.”
The Indians are back in action next week for a busy 3 game week starting with Pella Christian on Monday at PC. Game time is 5:30.
The Seniors recognized were Aleeya Cheney, Brooke Engelhardt, Kaia Graham, Emily Lunsford, and Kirby Nelson.
