Indians Prevail Over The Panthers

Cooper Spry completes the reception and finds the end zone for the Indians.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Indians were looking to fix a few things after the defeat at Pella the previous week. One of those was to mark up another win on the season, 30-14 over the Panthers.

Oskaloosa struck first when Will Schultz completed a 19-yard pass to Cooper Spry for the touchdown with just over 5 minutes remaining in the first quarter.

Aaron Blom’s kick was good for the PAT, and the Indians lead the Panthers 7-0.

The Panthers responded with 9:48 remaining in the second quarter when Carter Bailey bolted 87 yards for the touchdown.

The PAT kick from Wyatt Darnell was good, and the score was tied at seven each.

It took the Indians some time to find the end zone again, but Will Schultz helped the Indians find it again with 1:34 remaining in the half. Schultz ran 41 yards for the touchdown.

The PAT kick by Blom was blocked, and the Indians lead going into the locker room 13-7.

The Indians had the lone score in the third quarter when Blom booted a 41-yard field goal with 6:14 remaining in the quarter. Indians up 16-7.

Knoxville responded to the Indians with 9:02 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Kieren Nichols completed the 20-yard pass to Mike Hudson to draw the Panthers within two points of the Indians, 16-14, after the Wyatt Darnell PAT.

The Indians woke up and finished off the Panthers.

With 6:46 remaining in the game, Tyler Miller pushes his way into the endzone from 29 yards out. The PAT by Blom was good, and the Indians were up 23-14.

With 1:14 remaining in the contest, Miller once again runs the ball in from 14 yards out this time. Blom’s kick was good, and the Indians won 30-14.

Oskaloosa had 22 first downs compared to Knoxville’s 16.

The Indians had 288 yards rushing, to 206 for the Panthers. The Indians had a small advantage in the air, 104 to 97 for the Panthers, for a combined yardage of 392 for the Indians to 303 for Knoxville.

Will Schultz rushed for 188 yards, while Tyler Miller had 111 for the Indians.

Knoxville’s Carter Bailey had 128 yards rushing, with Kieren Nichols adding 87 yards to the effort.

Schultz was 6 of 14 in passing for a total of 104 yards, with three interceptions.

Nichols had 18 passing attempts with seven completions and one interception. He had 97 yards on the night.

Reed Brown had 39 yards receiving, with Tyler Miller gaining 34, and Cooper Spry 31 yards and a touchdown.

Mike Hudson had 46 yards on three receptions and a touchdown.

Blom left his mark on the defensive side of the ball with nine total tackles. Kenny Settimi and Cody Gunn each had seven total tackles. Colin Snitker and Noah Van Veldhuizen added five total tackles each.

For Knoxville, Cooper Worth, and Ben Olson each had ten total tackles, while Wyatt Darnell added eight tackles.

The Indians end their regular season on Friday night as they host South Tama, with a 7:30 pm kick-off planned.
