Indians Playing Best Ball Of The Season

by Coach Jodi Steinlage

The girls’ soccer team was in action on Monday and Tuesday night against Pella Christian and Indianola.

The girls played their best game of the season against the #10th ranked Eagles with a 1-0 victory to move their record to 5-5 (2-3 in the Little Hawkeye). The girls would come out from the get go and find all the right cylinders. Aleeya Cheney would put away a 30-yard shot midway through the 1st half (assist to Brooke Engelhardt). The score would remain the same until halftime.

After halftime, the girls would continue to play really good soccer and have several scoring opportunities, but were unable to finish any of them. On the defensive side, the Indians did a really good job of shutting down the Eagle offense. The 1 goal lead would stand to give the girls their first win over PC in 3 years.

On Tuesday, the Indians would go up against Indianola and struggled to get anything going in either half. The Indians would have several chances to score, but the goal wasn’t being kind to Oskaloosa. Indianola took advantage of a few mistakes in the first half to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.

The 2nd half would be much of the same with chances for both teams, but Oskaloosa unable to find the back of the net and Indianola finding it once for the final score of 3-0 to move their record to 5-6 (2-4 in Little Hawkeye).

“We loved how the girls came out and played on Monday. We played an entire 80 minutes of soccer and did everything right. It was a lot of fun to watch. Unfortunately, Tuesday wasn’t the same. We struggled to keep our intensity up and Indianola took advantage of that. We know how we can play as we showed that on Monday and we will continue to build on that.”

The girls play tonight against South Tama at Tama with start time at 5:30.
