Indians Drop Norwalk in Four Sets

Oskaloosa–The Oskaloosa girls’ volleyball team bolstered its resume and its confidence Tuesday, defeating #15 Norwalk 3-1 in Little Hawkeye Conference action.

The Indians (16-3, 3-0 LHC) disposed of the Warriors by scores of 25-17, 25-17, 19-25, 25-21. The victory starts a new winning streak after Oskaloosa’s most recent six-match streak was snapped on September 11 versus 5A #5 West Des Moines Valley.

The win, which is the Indians’ third in a row in the series, was highlighted by a monster night for Faith DeRonde. The senior was offered the ball 57 times and she put down 29 kills with just five errors for a .421 attack percentage.

DeRonde added 14 digs as well for a double-double, while Maleah Walker also hit the double-figure mark for kills with 10. Abygail Thompson, with six winners, and Rylee Ebelsheiser, with five more, also figured into the offensive output.

Olivia Gordon did most the work as Oskaloosa’s setter, recording 27 assists, while Presley Blommers added an additional 16 helpers.

Thompson paced the defense with a trio blocks (all assists), while DeRonde and Macie Krier led the Indians in digs with 14 apiece. Walker added 13 digs and Lucy Roach contributed 12 of her own.

Oskaloosa kept Norwalk (10-6, 1-2 LHC) off-balanced with a barrage of good serving, tallying 10 aces in the victory. Roach was OHS’ best server with four aces, while Gordon and Boender produced two each as well.

The match was the Indians’ seventh against ranked foes this fall; Oskaloosa is 4-3 in those battles.

Next Up: Oskaloosa travels to Pella next Tuesday to face #11 Pella in LHC action at 7:15 p.m.
