Indians Compete At Pella With Eye On State Competition

The girls tennis was in Pella for the Individual/Doubles qualifying for state Wednesday.
In singles, we had a couple of young girls playing to get some experience for next year. They had some tough draws but played well and showed a lot of growth this year!
Our Senior Doubles team of Ashley Drost and Laura Fay got the #4 seed and took care of business in the first round but fell to Pella Christian in round two. They played a style of play we were not used too and struggled to adjust. We lead each set 4-3 and fell short 4-6 on both. The girls really wanted a shot at the one seed and state but still had a great season!
Our other doubles team, Jolie Yang & Riz Alesna, drew the pigtail game and had to start a game back from the rest of the field. They did not let this bother them and came out dominating their first two matches. This lead them to face the 3 seeded Pella and came out firing getting out to a 4-1 lead. They ended up losing this set 6-7 in a tie break but bounced back winning the next two, 6-4 and 6-3, upsetting the 3 seed. This gave them a run at the 2 seeded PC team and a chance at state! They fought hard showing a lot of energy and fight for their 4th match of the day but fell short 4-6, 3-6. They were not done yet! They then had to play their 5th match of the day for 3rd place. Playing more games than any other team today they came out a little slow but fought back. They lost the first 5-7, 6-4, and won the tie break 10-7 finishing in third place!!!!
