Indians Battle A Tough DC-G Team

Oskaloosa Indians

by Coach Jodi Steinlage

The Oskaloosa girls opened up the season against a tough conference opponent in DC-G. The girls would play the Fillies tough in the 1st half but would give up a goal just past the midway point and that score would hold to halftime.

“We were really happy with how the girls came out and played in the first half. As coaches, we wanted to finally see all the pieces together and thought we did a good job working together in the 1st half.”

The Indians would continue to play strong in the 2nd half with the defense keeping them at bay until the 62nd minute. Unfortunately, the girls would surrender another goal shortly after to fall behind 3-0. The Indians would quickly find their footings again and kept DC-G off the scoreboard the rest of the game.

“We obviously wanted to win this game, but couldn’t be any prouder with how the girls came out and battled with a very tough team. We have a lot of girls playing in new positions and they stepped up to the plate and did what they needed to do. We played as a team and are excited for what the season will bring.”

Kyrsten DeWees did an amazing job in goal with 16 saves.

Aleeya Cheney had a shot on goal.

The Indians play tomorrow night at Ottumwa with Varsity starting at 7.

The JV team got the 1-0 victory with a goal by Abby Lumsden and Makayla Covey making several saves in goal.
