Kansas City, Mo.–If the William Penn men’s golf team’s improvement is any indication of what it may do in May, it could be a good conference showing for the Statesmen as they competed at the A.W. Tillinghast Intercollegiate hosted by Avila Monday and Tuesday.

Competing at the same venue (Swope Memorial Golf Course) in which the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championships will be held on May 9-10, WPU jumped three spots on the second day to finish sixth out of 10 teams with a final score of 626 (315-311). Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) claimed the tournament title at 601 (291-310).

In a field that included seven Heart programs, the navy and gold had the third-lowest score in the field on Tuesday, just two strokes off the best round.

Erik Jonasson of LU-B won the individual crown at two-over 144 (69-75), while Ben Roberts (Sr., Albia, Iowa, General Accounting) was tied for 15th amongst the 49-player field at 154 (79-75).

Frederik Lundsgaard (So., Jebjerg, Denmark, History/Government), in a tie for 21st at 156 (77-79), and Brandon Dizon (Jr., San Leandro, Calif., Sociology), in a tie for 28th at 158 (80-78), were both in the top-30 as well.

Spencer Skipper (Sr., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Business Management) tied for 36th with a two-day score of 161 (79-82) and Kyle Hashimoto (Jr., Acampo, Calif., Exercise Science) rounded out the lineup at 162 (83-79) to tie for 39th.

Next Up: William Penn returns to Oskaloosa Sunday and Monday to compete in the Mike “Fluff” Cowan Intercollegiate. Play will be contested at Edmundson Golf Course.
