Helen Gerard, 91, of Montezuma, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Unity Point Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
Helen Mae Gerard, the daughter of Nels Peterson and Nellie Olson Peterson was born on September 28, 1927 at Stratford, Iowa.

Helen attended school and was married to Walter Hill on March 15, 1967 at the Little Mount Baptist Church. Walter passed away in 1978 and she was married to Homer Gerard at her home in Montezuma in 1984. Homer passed away in 1999.

Helen worked for Sutherland Printing from 1958 and retired in 1984.

Homer and Helen enjoyed wintering in Port O’Connor, Texas. Family time was so important to Helen. She loved her family and spending time with her nieces and nephews.

Helen enjoyed painting, playing the piano in which she was self- taught and all music. She played the piano for church services. She loved helping people and taking care of others. Helen was an excellent pie baker, a wonderful cook, made friendship cakes and shared with others. Faith was a huge part of Helen’s life and she was a charter member of the Faith Christian Center. She also attended the Methodist Women’s Group with her friends.

Helen’s memory will be cherished by her nieces and nephews: Donna (& Wayne) Davis of Montezuma, Kenny (& Kathy) Peterson of Richland, MO, Carol (& Al) Perkins of Anamosa, and niece-in-law, Donna Thomason of Montezuma; and several other great nieces and nephews, relatives and many many friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Nels and Nellie Peterson; her siblings, Carroll “Roy” (& Mildred) Peterson and Esther (& Lyle) Thomason; and her nephew, Bob Thomason.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 8, 2019 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma beginning at noon with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at the Faith Christian Center beginning at 10:30 am.
Burial will be held in the Pleasant Township Cemetery at Ewart.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the Faith Christian Center.
